Now, there are tons and tons of formats, but the one thing that you need to know is, there are some formats that support transparency while some don't. When you save an image with a transparent background in Photoshop, you need to make sure that you are saving it in a format that supports transparency. The best format for transparency retention is undoubtedly PNG. I'm doing this demonstration on Adobe Photoshop CC 2017.
